YPS Engagement

All of our young people, in our Supported Housing Services, are expected to be working towards successful independent living thorugh our 'move on' pathway plans. We provide a package of support, which includes helping our residents get into education, employment or training as well as develop their life skills through attending workshops. The Engagement Team are here to support our young people to take the right steps, in order to pursue their future goals.

Workshops

We offer a variety of workshops to young people to improve their day to day life skills and support them to identify their passions and career aspirations.Young people have access to workshops such as healthy relationships, money management, moving on preparation, cooking, sexual health and many more. We also offer young people access to our music studio, which involves a music tutor providing sessions on music production and song writing.

Youth Panel

Youth panel is a group of young people who represent the whole of young people’s services. Our Youth Panel is key to bringing young people’s voices into conversations for our development as an organisation. We have a dedicated Youth panel that meet on a monthly basis and are involved in the following:

  • Community engagement
  • Dealing with general service users issues and campaigning for change
  • Review policies and procedures
  • Events planning - Such as our Summer Celebration that recognises the achievements of young people throughout the year.
  • Attending meetings with management and the tenant audit panel

Feedback from young people

One thing that I have realised living at the Young people service is that the support that I received from the staff members really prepared me mentally to live independently. When I opened up to listen to the helpful advice given to me I started making better choices. It starts becoming easy to live here once you open up yourself to support. I felt really welcome and safe here and I am grateful for the guidance I was given which has shaped me into the person I am today.

Living in support housing has really helped me to figure out who I am as a person and the things I want to do with my life. At first I thought I was already independent and didn’t need the support but having my Youth Coach and Engagement Officer made me learn that in life there is always room for improvement. Being here and having things such as workshops has really helped me to build my confidence and has made me more open in interacting with new people and making new friends.
