Young People's Services at The Felix Project
Working with community partners is at the heart of what we do at Christian Action Housing. Recently, Jayde, one of our Managers in Young People’s Services, visited The Felix Project — a charity that rescues good, surplus food from the food industry and redistributes it to food banks, charities, schools and community groups across London.
The visit formed part of an Open Day that brought together partners who regularly receive donations. It was a great opportunity to meet the staff and volunteers behind the scenes, ask questions, learn more about the challenges and successes of the project, and see first-hand how food is sorted and processed before reaching communities like ours.
Donations from the Felix project play an important role in supporting residents’ independence. Across our services we help young people build key life skills — from financial resilience and crisis support, to managing conflict, mental health and accessing wider services. Having access to additional food supplies helps reduce the risk of food poverty and gives residents the chance to be creative with ingredients, try new foods and gain confidence in the kitchen. We’ve even used Felix Project donations to run workshops; one recent example was a smoothie-making session, led by a resident, after a delivery containing a large supply of carrots.
As part of the Open Day, visitors were invited to taste pears freshly picked by Felix Project staff and volunteers earlier that week. The event also offered space to connect with other organisations, share ideas and strengthen relationships.
A huge thank you to The Felix Project for their continued support and for creating such an insightful day. Their partnership helps us make a real difference to the lives of the young people and communities we work with.
