Teresa House Celebrates International Literacy Day All Month Long 📚
This September, residents at Teresa House have been celebrating International Literacy Day (8 September) throughout the month.
To mark the occasion, the team encouraged residents to share their love of reading — from favourite books and authors to what inspires them to pick up a book. The response has been fantastic, with the Teresa House library seeing record numbers of books borrowed.
Some of the most popular recent reads include:
- Block, Delete, Move on by Liza Wiemer
- The Money Book by Laura Whateley
- The Diary of a CEO by Steven Bartlett
- Healing Is the New High by Vex King
- Atomic Habits by James Clear
Residents also shared their thoughts on the books that have inspired them most:
“My favourite book is Geek Girl. This book got me into acting because there was a TV series I loved. I asked my mum to get me all the books!”
“My favourite book is Atomic Habits, and next on my list is Diary of a CEO.”
“I like books that are thrillers or about war — anything with adventure or action.”
“I’m currently readingKeeping the House by Tice Cin andThe Money Book by Laura Whateley.”
“My favourite book is The Bible. I particularly likeGenesis as it’s the beginning.”
“Our work at Teresa House is about empowering young people to develop new skills, confidence and perspectives. It’s great to see young people exploring books that spark imagination, ambition and self-belief. Residents are discovering how reading can inspire personal growth and open doors to future opportunities.”
