Inspiring the next generation to explore careers in housing
Last week, colleagues from Christian Action Housing Association (CAHA) visited Heartlands High School in Wood Green to deliver our first Introduce and Inspire session to Year 9 pupils.
The interactive session introduced students to the important role housing plays in society, exploring what the sector does, why it matters and the wide range of career opportunities available.
Through discussions and real-life examples, pupils learned how people working in housing help create safe and thriving communities, provide quality homes and support people in many different ways.
Students explored the variety of careers available across the sector, including housing management, customer services, finance, people and culture, communications, youth work, and repairs and maintenance. For many, the session introduced roles and career paths they may not previously have considered.
The session also helped pupils make connections between what they learn at school and the skills needed in the workplace. Students explored how subjects including English, Maths, Science, IT and PE can support different career paths, alongside transferable skills they develop every day, such as communication, teamwork, problem-solving and empathy.
The visit was a fantastic opportunity to engage with young people in our local community, broaden their understanding of the housing sector and encourage them to think about the opportunities available to them in the future.
This was CAHA’s first Introduce and Inspire session, and we are looking forward to building on its success by delivering more sessions with schools across Haringey in the new academic year, as well as welcoming young people to sessions at Benedict House.
