Paying Your Rent - How do I know if my rent is up to date?

If you fall into rent arrears we will write to you. Christian Action Housing's Policy on Rent and Service Charge Arrears is shown later in these pages.

We will also send you a statement of your rent account four times a year that gives full details of your rent account for the previous three months. It shows:

  • Payments you have made
  • The balance of your account
  • Any payments that are overdue

It is important that you check your statement - see further within this section for help on understanding your rent statement.

If you wish to check your account balance at any other time, contact your Revenue Officer.

Please remember that we can only give you information over the telephone if you can tell us your tenant reference number. You can find this on your swipe card and on rent statements.

Understanding your rent statement

The information shown on your statement is personal to you and gives details of your tenant number, your name and address, the housing officer patch number and the weekly rent. This is in the second box on the first page.

The first column of the statement shows the Week Number (week one is the first week of the financial year ie. the first full week in April).

The second column shows the date of each week, which will be the Monday date.

The Type and Narrative explains the type of transaction ie. debit (this is the weekly charge for your rent) or details of any payments by housing benefit or standing order/direct debit.

The third column shows the amount of weekly rent charged.

The fourth column shows the amount paid (credited) to your account.

The fifth column is for any adjustments which may have been made to your account such as overpayment to housing benefit, rent adjustments etc.

The final column shows the balance. If this figure is followed by the letter CR then it means your account is in credit, if they are followed by the letter DR, it means that your account is in arrears. At the bottom of this final column is the total balance.

If you need any further explanation, please contact your Revenue Officer.
