If you die, there are a number of ways that your tenancy can be passed on to your partner or a family member. This is called “succession”.
In the case of a joint tenancy, the tenancy automatically passes to the surviving tenant.
If you were a sole tenant, your partner can inherit the tenancy as long as they were living at your address as their main home at the time of your death.
In order for another member of your family to inherit your tenancy, they will have to give us proof that they were living at your address for at least a year before your death.
There can only be one succession per tenancy. This means that if you succeeded to, or inherited the tenancy yourself, you cannot pass it on to anyone else.
