Who Is Responsible For The Shared Areas Outside Of My Home?

If you have exclusive use of a garden it is your responsibility to keep it clean and tidy. Whilst we appreciate that not everyone is a keen gardener, we do expect that gardens are well maintained and kept clear of rubbish so they do not become a nuisance to neighbours.

If you share a garden with your neighbours in a block of flats, it will generally be our responsibility to maintain the garden. We will charge you a service charge for this. If you do wish to share the maintenance of the garden with your neighbours, please contact us to discuss this.

If you live in a block with shared stairs, landings and hallway, we will usually employ a cleaning contractor to clean this. Again, we will charge a service charge with your rent to pay for this.

If there is not a cleaning contract in place, it will be the responsibility of all the tenants in the block to share the cleaning of the communal areas.

In all cases, you should make sure that communal areas are kept free of obstructions such as bikes or children’s buggies because of health and safety requirements in the event of a fire.
