Mutual Exchange Options

Social Housing tenants can swap tenancies with other social housing tenants, with the permission of their landlord. A home swap is often a quicker way of moving home rather than waiting on a transfer list.

Local councils hold lists of tenants who are looking to exchange their property. There are also agencies such as the HomeSwapper Service who operate mutual exchange lists. The Association has a contract with the HomeSwapper Service which is the UK's largest mutual exchange service for councils and housing association tenants wanting to swap homes. Across the UK, thousands of tenants join HomeSwapper every month. They use HomeSwapper to move locally or right across the UK.

HomeSwapper provides a professional mutual exchange service at no cost to tenants. The service is internet based and you can access the service by visiting the HomeSwapper website at:- www.homeswapper.co.uk.

When you visit the site, click on the 'Join' button at the top of the page and follow the on screen prompts. You will be asked to enter your address, some contact details, details about your home and the property that you are looking for. Once you have successfully entered this information in, the Association will be informed that you have made a registration. If the registration is acceptable to the Association, the registration will be authorised.

Once the registration is authorised, you can receive alerts by email, or by text message to your mobile telephone, to let you know if there any properties advertised that match the one that you are looking for.

If you are successful in finding someone that you wish to swap with, it will then be necessary for you and them to apply for permission to carry out the exchange.
