Recent and Current Developments

Development & Regeneration

Although we are a relatively small housing association, Christian Action has maintained an active development programme of new housing in recent years. As part of North River Alliance, we are a delivery partner for the Homes & Communities Agency’s affordable housing programme.

Recent developments include:

Cyril Smith House, where we have redeveloped an existing sheltered scheme to provide state-of the-art homes for older residents, using the latest sustainable technology to keep fuel costs down and ensure lower carbon emissions.

Katherine House in Leyton, where our new flats are housed in a contemporary building that complements the historic municipal offices next door.

Enfield CDI scheme, where we have built 32 homes for overcrowded families and key workers on underused areas of land within existing estates.

Many of our developments provide other facilities for the community:

On the Bounces Road Estate in Edmonton we provided a new community hall and play area alongside our new homes. We also created a new landscaped ‘London square’ for all local residents and funded CCTV and other estate improvements.

At Vincent House we worked in partnership with Enfield Council to provide new offices and interview rooms for Age Concern, Enfield CAB and a base for Ponders End Community Development Trust. The striking new building also includes a café.

Our new development at Burleigh Way will transform a derelict site adjacent to the Market Square in Enfield, providing much needed housing and a new route through this part of the town, fronted by new shops.

In Barnet, our redevelopment of Trinity Church, Mill Hill, provides new housing and also includes the refurbishment of the existing Church building on behalf of the United Reformed Church, who will use the new facilities to serve the local community in Mill Hill.

Funding

We have received significant grant funding from national and local government. As we move into more austere times financially, we will continue to seek out opportunities to provide more housing and to facilitate other services in the neighbourhoods in which we operate.
